Music is a strong and important part of the St Paul's curriculum. We have a number of children who can play an instrument and we offer drum, flute, violin, keyboard, cornet and guitar lessons to the children in Key Stage 2. Every child in Year 5 plays the ukulele and has weekly lessons. Music in Key Stage 2 is taught by a music specialist - Mrs Sands.
We use the BBC Ten Pieces to inspire our music lessons and each class has chosen 3 pieces it will focus on. We also play music throughout the school day are are all learning about some very famous pieces of music.Last year we went to the Barbican to hear live music played by the London Symphony Orchestra; Key Stage 1 heard Peter and the Wolf and Key Stage 2 saw Presto and Zesto in Limboland. This year we hope to go and see a ballet and listen to how the music enhances the dance.
We have had some super singing throughout the year at school: at our EYFS and KS1 nativities, the KS2 Carol Concert, the Easter play, the Year 5 and 6 production of 'The Showman' and in each of our creative curriculum assemblies. These have all been real highlights.
Children have many opportunities to perform. The ukulele group and the choir are always at the Advent Market, the Summer Fair and other key events. Every year we hold a music concert which showcases the music within our school and there are also assemblies where children can show off their musical talents. Please look at the photos and watch the videos to get a taste of the musical life of the school. .
