On Friday 17th February it was RE Day and each class explored one of the different 5 main religions. Our class explored Islam. We began by looking at the meaning of Islamic symbols. We then explored how to handle and look after the Qur'an and compared it to other holy books that we have learned about. After reading a story from the Qur'an and working out it's meaning, the children then wrote their own versions of the story, highlighting the meaning. Finally, we looked at the different parts of a mosque, again comparing it to a church and synagogue which we have already explored. The children either designed prayer mats, made a map of the inside of a mosque or built their own mosque. We were also lucky enough to have a parent come in and teach some dance linked to the day. Our RE theme this half term is "Who is Muslim and how do they live?" and RE Day definitely set the topic off to a great start, enthusing the children and encouraging their curiosity!
