Welcome to Nursery!
A very warm welcome to all our Nursery children and their families.
This term will be all about settling in. We will be getting to know each other and the structure of the morning. Although the children will have a range of different activities each day, they will soon begin to recognise the structure of the morning and will settle quickly.
After the initial first few weeks we will introduce the theme, ‘All About Me’. The children will be encouraged to talk about their families as well as looking at the similarities and differences they have.
This topic will feed into all areas of learning, for example we will look at measuring and introduce the vocabulary related to size; the children will talk about and draw pictures of themselves and their families; we will think about what makes us unique and compare ourselves to each other. There will be lots of activities around this and we will continue this up until half term.
We will practise counting through nursery rhymes and songs as well as counting objects and recognising numbers around us. We will be thinking about 2D shapes. We will encourage the children to use shapes to create pictures using a range of craft resources; we will talk about shape during many activities and will go on a shape hunt, looking for shapes around us.
Each morning when the children enter Nursery, a fine motor skills activity will be set up for them. We will continue this with providing cutting, writing and pen control activities.
We will share a whole range of books, stories, rhymes and songs and encourage the children to join in and to share their own favourites.
Most of all we will spend time talking to the children, getting to know them and encouraging them to join in with activities and discussions. We want them to be happy and settled so that they enjoy themselves in Nursery.
