Collective Worship
Collective Worship
Daily collective worship provides an important part in the life of the school, bringing together
children and staff in an act of worship which is inclusive, invitational and inspiring. Opportunities are given for children to engage, think and reflect. The children are made aware of the importance of other world faiths to enable them to take their place in the wider world in which we live. The acts of Collective Worship link to one of the school values and play an important role in promoting the ethos of the school and its vision.
At St Paul’s we provide acts of Collective Worship that reflect the faith and practice of the Church of England. We use the Bible as a sourcebook for inspiration and learning and make pupils familiar with the Lord’s Prayer, psalms and verses of scripture.
It should be noted that parents have the right to withdraw their children from an act of collective worship.
During the year the Worship Group, Pupil Parliament and House Captains lead the school in acts of worship. The themes for this worship comes from our Christian values and are merged with St
Alban’s Diocese themes for the church year. Each year group takes it in turns to study the
theological theme or value in class by reading the story or writing prayers for the class prayer table. We also use Picture News to find out about current national and global events in a child-friendly way with links to Christian values and teachings.
On a Friday we have WOW Worship where we celebrate the children’s work and achievements from the week. The children are presented with their awards in this assembly along with a green leaf for the large celebration tree on display in the hall focusing on what we can be thankful to God for.
