Sponsorship Success
Tue 07 Mar 2017it gives me great delight to tell everyone that I have news on sponsorship. You may have seen in our St Paul's Business Club Magazine, or in the School Newsletter, that some very generous individuals and groups of people have sponsored particular resources for our school.
Firstly Mr Bradshaw and his IT company have sponsored our new School Football kit. The children look very smart and Mr Murton is extremely proud.
Then the Friends have paid for and sponsored our new set of class laptops and a new laptop trolley. This will all be set to use after the Easter holidays - we can't wait!
And then Mr Squires has sponsored our new Forest School equipment. This will go towards much needed equipment for nature studies and outdoor learning.
On behalf of the school and all of the children, I would like to say a massive thank you to these parents and the Friends, for all of their continued support. These resources are valuable and as budgets are squeezed, generous donations such as these are paramount.
If you would like to sponsor a resource, or help in some way, please come and speak to me.

The week ends tomorrow with a giant tea party for the whole school, culminating in cutting up our 50th Birthday Cake as well.
World Book day vouchers will be sent home and I look forward to seeing all of their costumes tomorrow.

O2 School Choir Concert
Thu 19 Jan 2017The School Choir was part of a 7,295 member choir on Tuesday evening (17.1.17). It was the Young Voices concert and these concerts are organised nationwide. The children sang a huge range of songs from a medley around the musical "Five Guys named Moe" to traditional folk songs from around the British Isles. It was a marvellous experience and one that the children will never forget. Our choir sang their hearts out, were incredibly well behaved and had a wonderful time. Well done to all of the choristers and thank you to Miss Heraty and Mrs Sycamore for helping. -
RE week
Thu 19 Jan 2017RE week has been a very reflective week. We have learnt a lot about Rev James, read bible stories, discussed them, created art work and spent a lot of time thinking. We have decided it is good to stop and think, once in a while! It is a hard thing to do sometimes, but very effective. There have been sessions of Godly Play and some very interesting collective worship with fishing rods! The children will dress up as Bible Characters on Friday, for Bible Day. I wonder who will turn up.. Moses, a whale or maybe even a rainbow? -
Church and School Advent Market
Thu 08 Dec 2016The Church and School Advent Market was a huge success. It took place on the 26th of November and the school was buzzing!
The School Choir opened the event with 3 beautiful songs, Santa visited the school and spent time in his Grotto and there were many wonderful stalls to visit.
There was something for everyone with wonderful crafts to jazzy jars with sweets! Year 6 were excellent waiters and waitresses at Tea at the Ritz and the cakes were delicious.
The Raffle was a big success with the winning prize of a night at the Grove Hotel.
Thank you to everyone who helped on a stall, washed up, dried up, cooked a burger, folded a raffle ticket and took money. The Church and school have both raised some much needed money and we are both very grateful.
Merry Christmas!

Macbeth at St Paul's
Tue 29 Nov 2016Macbeth was the name of the play our Year 6 performed this year, as part of the Shakespeare Festival 2016. The children get the amazing opportunity to work with the Royal Shakespeare Company. They performed at The Abbey Theatre, St Albans and were... BRILLIANT.
The children had a dress rehearsal in the morning and then performed to an audience of around 200 people that evening. They received professional feedback on their performance and on the technical and artistic interpretations.
Max was in the lighting box and did a fantastic job as technical manager with transforming light changes and sound edits.
There was good use of music too with classical excerpts used for dramatic influences.
The children were impeccable performers. They had purpose, projected, were focused and the Ensemble work was very effective. Lead characters performed with drive, intent and were very believable.
The feedback from parents was overwhelming and very positive.
The school were treated to a dress rehearsal too before the Final performance and they were all in awe. Just think Year 5, your turn next year!

Arts at St Paul's
Wed 16 Nov 2016The Arts are thriving at St Paul's. Over the last term dance, music and art have been explored and skills developed with visitors, staff and children have experienced some exciting opportunities.
Year 4 took part in the local SSP Dance Festival. They performed a vibrant routine (complete with glittery bowler hats) to a Jungle Book song. Ben Vasey (a local dance teacher) supported our Y4/5/6 classes again this year with some contemporary dance lessons.
Our displays around the school this term have been focussed on the theme of portraits and explored a particular artists style. So we have Seurat to Picasso portraits around our school. I am pleased to announce that as part of our Arts Curriculum we have organised a trip to the National Gallery for the KS2 children. This will take place in March 2017.
Finally our School Choir is as busy as ever with rehearsals underway for the Colosseum Concert in Watford and the KS2 Carol Service. This year we have an extra concert to prepare for. Our Choir will be singing at the 02 in London as part of the Young Voices Concert. This promises to be quite an event.

50th Birthday Celebrations
Thu 03 Nov 20162017 marks our 50th anniversary of St Paul's CE VA Primary School moving from the Old School House in Hunton Bridge to Langleybury Lane.
To celebrate this special occasion we have organised many special events from a commemoration service led by the Bishop of St Albans, a Ball at Hunton Park and a whole school trip to Whipsnade Zoo!
Our special day is the 8th of March 2017 and we hope to have lots of ex-pupils and staff joining us to celebrate.
If you know of anyone who used to come to the school or used to work at the school, please ask them to email the admin address and give us their name and contact details.
If you have any ideas or would like to get more involved with these events, please speak to Mrs Winter.
Thank you and here's to our 50th!

Maasai Warriors come to St Paul's!
Fri 07 Oct 2016The children and staff were treated to an amazing display of African culture from the Maasai tribe of warriors from Kenya. The seven tribesmen and women performed tribal songs, danced and showed the children how they hunt, whistle to look after their livestock and JUMP! Some children joined in and even Mrs Winter made an attempt at jumping! It was a once in a lifetime experience for our school community to witness such happy, relaxed people enjoy showing us their skills, when we know that their life is so different to ours. Thank you for all of your contributions which will go straight to the tribe and support them.
